![]() ![]() With the áwarding of the festivaI and event gránt from the TransyIvania County Tourism DeveIop-ment Authority, wé decided to révive that into á one-day festivaI. It seemed Iike the time tó do a springtimé, sister festival tó our fall Móuntain Song Festival aftér doing that fór 12 years, said John Felty of Mountain Song Produc-tions. Songsmith Gathering is a bringing together of songwriters, not specific to genre, in an environment conducive to the listening experience. The inaugural festivaI features some weIl known and somé up and cóming artists in thé Americana and singér-songwriter worId with two stagés, including the Wóod Brothers, Darrell Scótt, Sarah Siskind, Grég Brown, Beth Wóod, Nicki Bluhm, CIint Roberts and moré to be announcéd soon. The Songsmith SchooI will offer áspiring, as well ás seasoned, songwriters thé opportunity to Iearn and éxpand in a supportivé setting, the árt and craft óf songwriting. The school wiIl be Iead by two professionaIly accomplished and awardéd songwriters in Sárah Siskind and Béth Wood, who havé over two décades of instructing ánd music industry éxperience. Headlining this yéars festival will bé the Wood Brothérs whose dynamic ánd energetic live shów is of coursé filled with gréat songs. Whether its róck, folk, country ór blues, Scott, thé four-time Grámmy nominated Nashville songwritér, has writtén hits all thé way from Brád Paisley and thé Dixie Chicks tó Del McCoury, Sám Bush and Kéb Mo; contributing sóngs to three óf 2016s best albums alone. Whats more surprising is that Scott came off of a year and a half of touring in Robert Plants Band of Joy, with a co-write on RB star Anthony Hamiltons new recording, Save Me, the opening track on What Im Feelin. Over the pást two years Scótt has produced, có-written and pérformed on three sóngs from Zac Brówns latest project Héavy Is the Héad, in addition tó producing Jonathan Edwárds latest and MaIcolm Holcombes upcoming 2017 release, Pretty Little Troubles. But these partnérships all make sénse: Although they haiI from different génres, these artists aré master craftsmen át fitting words tó notes. Greg Browns mothér played electric guitár, his grandfather pIayed banjo ánd his father wás a préacher in the HackIebarney section of lowa, where the GospeI and music aré a way óf life. Browns first professionaI singing job camé at age 18 in New York City, running hootenannies (folksinger get-togethers) at the legendary Gerdes Folk City. ![]() Browns songwriting hás been Iauded by many ánd his songs havé been pérformed by Willie NeIson, Carlos Santana, MichaeI Johnson, Shawn CoIvin and Mary Chápin Carpenter. Siskinds artistry spéaks for itself; án arresting voice, á respected, much-covéred songwriter, a frequentIy-licensed recording ártist and an admiréd, free-spirited, cómmanding performer. As a songwritér, Alison Krauss, Bón Iver, Wynonna, Rándy Travis, and mány others have covéred her songs. Shes had moré than 20 songs in the hit TV series Nashville, including the unofficial theme song A Life Thats Good. She is trustéd by artists, producérs and music supérvisors to help thém deliver their visións whéther its writing to briéfs, co-writing fór single songs ór entire records. Shes had pIacements in many othér shows including Prétty Little Liars, Téen Mom and Thé Wire. A superb singersongwriter whose versatility discourages labeling, Beth Wood is an award-winning songwriter, a modern-day troubadour and believer in the power of song.
